Food Waste Exposed - Ramen
Between 30 and 40% of all food produced globally ends up not being eaten, a tragic and maddening fact when you know that 1 in 9 people suffer from a hunger related disorder.
The Food Waste Exposed event aims to lay bare the structural issues that allows the loss of food to be so rife. But rather than bombard you with information, we prefer to engage you by demonstrating the exciting potential of these overlooked, undervalued and discarded ingredients. We will celebrate these ingredients by showcasing their versatilely and flavours in the form of ramen/ noodle soup. All the food for this event will be salvaged fresh from local supermarkets, businesses, restaurants and Food Banks and you will witness as the food arrives in creates and is transformed into ingenious novel combinations.
Have you ever had noodles made from ground-up stale bread?
Instead of kale crisps, try cauliflower leaf crisps?
Bamboo shoots, how about blanched broccoli heart?
Ground popcorn kernels replace sesame seeds?
The potential to use these often discarded ingredients is infinite and virtually untapped.
All proceeds from the event are reinvested back into the fight against food waste and into projects, such as Rainbow Junktion Community Cafe and The Real Junk Food Project.
Tickets are exchangeable for bowls of ramen in the stall.
Venue Address: Hyde Park Book Club, 27-29 Headingley Ln, Leeds, LS6 1BL
